The refurbishment of a historic London building

This refurbishment of Churchill House respects the building’s historic fabric whilst delivering a set of functional and good-looking office spaces to meet the demands of the creative start-ups moving to the Old Street area.

The project consisted of the complete refurbishment of the lower ground, ground, second, third and fourth floor office spaces along with the main reception area and the building’s exterior, while the tenant remained in situ on the first and fifth floors.

The transformation is immediately apparent from the outside, where the stone façade has been beautifully revived through grit-blasting, with the lower areas completely renovated in a contemporary interpretation of the columns above.

The internal works include a fully reconfigured opening between ground and basement with new roof light at first floor, to maximise daylight into the lower levels. Existing window openings have been enlarged and new double-glazed units and entrance doors to the main reception ground and basement levels added.

The new reception features a specially commissioned artwork by Acrylicize which plays with the ideas of data and connectivity to echo the pioneering tech enterprises which underpin the rapid development of the area.

Churchill House has proved successful for a new generation of tenants, reflecting their progressive brands and inspiring their workforces.
