This ambitious refurbishment and extension of a 1980’s laboratory delivers a striking office building which strips the building all the way back to its structural frame to create new elevations onto Jamestown Road and Regents canal.
A completely reworked façade and generous lobby greet visitors at ground level on Jamestown Road creating an impressive sense of arrival. Careful design development with Camden Planning led to an architecture that balances a contextual approach to Regents Canal’s industrial heritage with a townscape idea that diminishes the visual impact of the building’s two storey extension.
The two upper floors present a light and airy ‘foil’ to the industrial theme below giving panoramic views over London. The deep setbacks from the canal allow fantastic terrace spaces for the upper floors to open onto. A living atrium has been created in the heart of the building, animated with panoramic glazed lifts and bringing natural light deep into the heart of the building.
