A resort for ecologically-minded holidaymakers will rejuvenate the Isle of Wight.

Priory Bay, a new high-end resort on the Isle of Wight for Aria Resorts, has been designed to re-establish the site as a viable year-round holiday destination.

The resort will offer a variety of holiday experiences, with the first-class service and facilities provided by the existing hotel supplemented by a range of new and expanded accommodation, much of it set in the hotel’s grounds and appealing to those looking for more independence and connection with nature.

The newly modernised and extended Grade II listed hotel will provide 27 hotel rooms and 14 suites, alongside an additional 12 woodland retreats and 56 individual lodges, all set within the hotel’s 19.7 hectares of grounds which include Priory Woods and Priory beach. Existing listed barns and outbuildings will be refurbished along with new facilities to provide a new restaurant and bar, spa and gym facilities, farm shop, and swimming pool. The scheme will provide local job opportunities as well as promote local food and produce.

A consistent design approach across a range of disparate buildings brings an aesthetic coherence to the overall site. Historically important structures and outbuildings are sensitively restored. Contemporary additions reference traditional architectural vernacular with agriculturally inspired retreats and lodges, stonework, and materials. Lodges have been designed to combine Scandi-chic with comfortable family living, creating forest hideaways with views out to the Solent.

The scheme will include the planting of 1.72 hectares of new woodlands, and a major upgrade to existing landscaping.
