Julia joined Ben Adams Architects in 2007.
She has a deep understanding of existing buildings, working on projects requiring adaptive reuse, the conservation of historic building fabric and listed buildings. She leads critical thinking within the studio in project development and procurement, and in the design management process.
Her approach is contemporary yet highly contextual: respectful of the site, existing building fabric, neighbouring structures and historic conditions.
Julia has a strong on-site track record, working on projects from concept to delivery to ensure that the original design intention is reflected in the finished product.
She appreciates the intense pressures that clients can be under to make cost effective decisions, and is skilled at supporting them in this by explaining the implications of key decisions, and advising on which areas of the building will most benefit from investment. She is organised, process-orientated and pragmatic with the enthusiasm to galvanize the design team when needed.
Julia qualified as an architect in Canada before coming to London to extend her opportunities to work on existing buildings. Prior to working at BAA she spent year 4 years at John McAslan and Partners.
